Essential Oils and Traveling

Here in Maine we welcomed spring yesterday with 14″ of beautiful snow.  It is a final (hopefully) gift of the winter season.  As I sit here looking out my AromaCottage window it is beautiful, but I am looking forward to getting on the road tomorrow and heading south with my husband, Ron, and Brooklyn, our newly adopted doxie girl!  Here is a picture of Brooklyn having fun in the snow!

Brooklyn in March snow

When I pack for a trip, planning which essential oils, sprays, base oils, lotions and such I will bring is a major part of my preparation. My body items are important because I am so sensitive to those fragranced chemical laden products found in hotel bathrooms. My anti germicidal sprays are invaluable to have in my purse and hotel room and even the car gets equipped with aromatherapy!  So here is a list of what I will be making and bringing with me on our road trip-

For the Car

I use essential oils that will invigorate and clear a foggy mind when the driving makes me droopy, such as rosemary, peppermint, lemon or pine.  A few drops can simply be added to a paper towel or cotton ball and placed by the vent in the car.  You can pick up the towel or cotton ball and inhale for a quick pick me up.  I make a spray with about 10 drops total of essential oils to each ounce of water (remember to add a bit of alcohol to mix the oils and water together) and spray the car interior, my hand to inhale from, and around my head to stimulate my attention to the road.  Always be careful when using sprays to avoid your eyes.

For road stops and the hotel

It’s a germy world out there and there’s nothing worse than getting sick while traveling.  Many essential oils have anti viral, anti bacterial, anti fungal properties such as tea tree, eucalyptus, lavender or thyme.  As soon as I arrive in the room I mist the TV controller, doorknobs, counter tops, vents, and anything else I think needs a shot of spray.  I also repeat this every day after the maid cleans the room which helps to dispel the usually overpowering fragranced cleaning smell that’s been left behind.  You can also use a damp paper towel or cloth with about 5 drops of essential oil on them to wipe everything down.

For body

I  bring a smaller containers of what I usually use at home. I make all my own body oils, lotions, soaps and shampoos with essential oils specific to my needs and base oils such as sweet almond or jojoba.  If you are especially sensitive to what the hotels offer in their bathrooms like I am don’t leave home without what works for you!  I also bring a towel and washcloth to use if the towels in the room have been washed with fragranced laundry detergent!

This all takes some effort in preparing and gathering my supplies for a trip, but it is well worth it to have it all along!

Oh, and since we are going to Florida, I’d better bring some of my essential oil bug spray!

Bon Voyage!

A Steep Learning Curve

Although my new website is still mostly blank, I have been hard a work understanding the concept of what I want to do.  I’m not there yet, but I expect the light to come on soon and then I will be able to forge ahead!  I have managed to redirect my essentialsforyou.com e-mail to my personal yahoo account which means that you can continue to contact me at diane@essentialsforyou.com. Your answer for now will come from dbraybrook@yahoo.com. You can also reach me on my Facebook page or on my cell at 207-930-5979.  I am practicing patience with all of this!

Hello to all my AromaFriends!

If you have visited my website in the past you may be surprised that it has disappeared!  But fear not because I am in the very beginning steps of creating a new website. Meanwhile, please use my personal e-mail which is dbraybrook@yahoo.com or give me a call on my cell at 207-930-5979 to contact me.  I’m a bit overwhelmed with all of this right now and I’d much rather be working with my essential oils but I am confident that I can get it all figured out eventually and be able to offer a clearer picture of who I am and what I want to communicate to you about Aromatherapy.  Learning is lifelong and so here I am beginning another journey!
